Percussive Release… A Moisture Post… Sort Of

My oldest client referred me to one of his friends, and we had an appointment yesterday afternoon.  The work went well, and he was happy.

From work, I hopped on the bus and headed to the home of a pelvic affiliate of mine…

We got stoned and were cuddling and stuff, and I asked him about the paddle he had hanging on the back of his bedroom door, so he brought it down.

We started paddling my butt with it, and I had a brainstorm: what would this feel like on my scar from that old hamstring tear I did to myself back in 2003?

So, I asked him to stop and if I could give him a bit of instruction on what I wanted him to try. He was amenable to that, and so I instructed him on how I wanted him to hold the paddle and where to strike and with how much pressure.

I had him use the edge of the paddle instead of the wide face to concentrate the force of the blows. We worked very slowly and with not a huge amount of force at first so I could gauge how much made sense from a therapeutic standpoint.

Before I had him work on my hamstring, which has a huge knot of emotional energy tied up into it, I tested this idea out on my plantar fascia, which has been experiencing a bit of fascitis over the past few weeks. I showed him exactly where to strike and how much force, which ended up being a considerable amount more than I had originally thought, but wow. My foot and heel do not hurt in the least today.

So we moved up to my hamstring and I had him work on the medial attachment down near the knee of my semimembranosus muscle, which I tore back in 2003 in a tragic dancing accident.

He hammered on the scar for a bit while I stretched the muscle, then I had him move around to the pes anserinus, and with very gentle but persistent percussion, had him work on that attachment for the semimembranosus, semitendinosus, and the gracilis.

Today, my leg feels a million time better – I can’t believe how incredible my leg feels.

Storage Space Slide-through

The time I allotted for the consolidation of Foggy City Dancers’ property to the new storage space was insufficient. The manager at the storage space assured me that it would only take around 15 minutes or so to sign the contract and what-not. What he didn’t say was that he was both frantic and plodding, acting like Henny Penny yet moving with tortoise-like speed.

With that in mind, I called the participants of this month’s Stairway Walk and let them know that I was running way behind schedule and to not wait around for me, as I didn’t know when I’d be finished.  As it turned out, one was sick, and one morphed his day into a mini-walking tour on his own, and the other had a last-minute change of plans, so it all worked out.

The actual moving of the stuff didn’t take that long at all, once the paperwork was done.  John, Steve, and I all worked well together, and we got things done quickly and efficiently.

Running With Scissors

I just finished reading Augusten Burroughs’ “Running with Scissors” today. What a darkly disturbing tale of coming of age in a cage of crazies. I like the simplicity of the language contrasted with complexity of the situation in which the protagonist finds himself.

QotD: What interesting books have you read lately?

A Warm Evening

The warm night was full of lovers strolling through Union Square, the air heavy with moisture and redolent of jasmine and other perfumed flowers. I sat in the square, absorbed in my own thoughts, waiting for my erstwhile cub, Jason, to get off work.

We walked for a while, speaking of nothing important, the warm air holding us in its humid embrace. The sky was as full of stars as could be in the urban environment, and we boarded the underground together, our lips brushing in a quick kiss farewell as I got off at my stop, and he continued on to his.

Baking Suggestions

I’ve been on a baking jag lately, having baked two loaves of banana bread and now a loaf of whole wheat bread. Feeling ready to move on to more complex loaves and recipes. This particular loaf of whole wheat bread makes really yummy toast, and has a lovely crispy crust.

QotD: Anyway, what are your favorite bread machine recipes, books, etc?

Map of Area Destroyed by 1906 Fire

1906-earthquake-fire-damage

What we are seeing here is a screen capture I made of a google map I drew of the area (in red) that shows the boundaries of the area destroyed by the fire. What I didn’t include in this image is the fact that this red area encompasses almost the entire area of the original 1850 boundaries of the city.

Exquisite Corpse, V77.2

Thanks to everyone who played this round of Everyone’s Favorite Online Collaborative Poetry Game™ – Exquisite Corpse: rootbeer1Steve (rootbeer1) and qbearJack (qbear)

I told the waitress:
Cherry soda a-blossoming.
So she shook the can.

Made an ice cream float.
Cherry soda a-blossoming.
What a mess to clean!

Idol Thoughts

I missed Allison, but saw enough of her at the end to know that she held her own again. But as far as the rest go:

  • Anoop made panties wet all across the country.  He’ll make it through to next week.
  • Adam is still a force to be reckoned with, and that last note of his made neighborhood dogs cry out.
  • Matt is definitely in the bottom three, and in my mind, the bottom rung of the three.
  • “Hokey” Gokey started out sharp, then flat, but he recovered nicely.  I predict he makes it through.
  • Kris sang a relatively obscure song (even if it did win an Oscar), but was perfect.
  • Lil was just dreadful – too tentative when she should have been big.  And the only version of “The Rose”  I ever think of  anymore besides Bette’s is the Kinsey Sicks, and only because they mock the song so well.

So, if I have to guess who’s in the bottom three, I’ll go with Lil, Matt, and Allison, with Lil being booted.

Domesticity

I spent today at home, doing things around the house.  I washed my bedding, including my pillows, comforter, and even the down comforter.  As long as you keep the dryer on low heat, you do have to put it through two times, but it gets it clean and fluffy and ready to go back into the spacebag for the season.

In between laundering, I also made a huge pot of risotto.  I broke my pescatarianism today by using up a box of chicken broth in addition to the vegetable broth, but I didn’t want it to go to waste in the cabinet all year.  Also, I put in peas, a can of diced tomatoes, a pound of frozen seafood (shrimp, scallops, calimari), some parmesan cheese, salt and pepper, along with a kilo of arborio rice.  So, so good!
