Answers, Answers – Question 7

I remember you always singing and always doing the pie song at Fiesta. Do you plan on doing anything with your voice?

The Fraternal Order of Cyber-Amish is the “religion” that I founded back in 1998 in Tuscon, Arizona, at the local bear club’s run, Fiesta de Los Osos.  A simple afternoon’s coffee and dessert morphed into a performance art piece of leading 150 men down the streets, chanting the Mystery of Faith: Pie is Baked, Pie is Eaten, Pie will Come Again.

The inspiration for that was the seven years I spent as a Greek Orthodox Psalti.  After being recruited by Bishop Elias, I was fascinated by the culture of the Eastern Orthodox Church, and taught myself to read the Byzantine notation, learn the liturgical music.

I have done a little bit of performance on stage since 2005 when I quit the church, but nothing like I’d like to do.  Someday I’d like to have a trio of piano, drums and guitar that backed me for my act of jazz, pop standards, and more contemporary songs re-arranged as jazz.  Also, I am interested in doing some voiceover work, but thus far haven’t put forth the required energy toward that goal.

But I do use my voice in my current work.  As I mentioned in the here.
