Oh, Magic Eight Ball…

I’ve been in a bit of a funk the past few days.  My massage special went off well, and I was somewhat busy, but business has been slow.  I haven’t been going to the gym for the past two months after I hurt my shoulder, but I feel like it’s time to start back up again.

I RSVP’d for the upcoming Foggy City Dancers’ Open House at their new location back in the Castro, the Sanchez Elementary School at 17th and Sanchez.  If their lack of a Castro location was keeping you from attending, well now there’s no excuse.  Go click that link and RSVP – this will be the first time I’ve danced in months, so you’ll have to take it easy on me.

I’m delving into restarting up my podcast, Tawdry Talk.  I have a couple of ideas:

  • more monologue of pop culture and other reviews like the old episodes, or
  • interviews, or
  • “audiobooks” where I read sections of public domain literature, or
  • something else.

Also, I might be trying to do a massage podcast over at my professional services website, as well.  Or reviving the Care and Feeding of Your Inner Bear videoblog.

I have an urge to be more creative, but am feeling a bit blocked as to what direction to take.

Grey skies and chill wind
cold rain upon matted leaves
and autumn sinks in.

What, this is Heaven?
Cold rain upon matted leaves?
I thought different.

Warmly wrapped in bed
Cold rain upon matted leaves
Yay indoor heating

Walking to the car
Cold rain upon matted leaves
I’m chilled to the bone

The turkey is burnt.
Cold rain upon matted leaves.
Pizza hut awaits.

Gray clouds send soft
Cold rain upon matted leaves.
Winter enfolds all.

The house specialty?
Cold rain upon matted leaves.
Won’t eat there again!

A warm prolonged kiss
Cold rain upon matted leaves
The world falls silent

Autumn’s frosty nip
Cold rain upon matted leaves
Friends’ love warms my soul

Dance to rhythms of
Cold rain upon matted leaves.
Winter resonates.

I’m back from the Gay Civil Rights rally in Sacramento.  I have video and photos to post, but I’ll do it in the morning.  It was fun and inspirational.

Cyber Amish Supports Gay Marriage

The Fraternal Order of Cyber Amish believe that marriage is for any two or more adults who wish to enter into it.  They can be straight, gay, bisexual, whatever.  They must be adults and capable of entering into a contract.  The role of the state would not be to sanction the relationships, but to record the contracts commencement and dissolution.

Heck, people don’t even have to love each other to be married.  The Cyber Amish believe it is better if people do love each other, but that’s largely an optional component.  Neither do they have to live together, nor procreate.  The reasons that people have are their own for marrying, and they are personal.  As long as everyone enters into the agreement of their own free choice, that is what matters.

The Cyber Amish also believes in Temporary Marriage, if that’s what the parties desire.  Marriage for a predetermined period of time, with or without options for extension built into the contract.

Say Cheese

Thank you, dantheredDan the Red, for this delicious cake.  I love this collection of early Kodachrome photography from 1939 – 1940 -ish, and you will, too.  The colors are lush and rich and the composition is beautiful, workmanlike and steady.

Weekend in Words

Friday: I finished my laundry and went to work on a the first client to buy into my Thanksgiving Special (25% off two-hour sessions booked for November). After that, I came back home and played WoW for a little while before my friend Wiley came and picked me up at 7pm to drive up to Guerneville for a retreat with Team Bear Steering Committee and the PrideWorks Board of Directors. We arrived at the Russian River Resort, got checked in and met with the board who had been up there since Thursday evening.

We had a few cocktails and sang some Karaoke, and I found a new song to add to my song list when doing Karaoke: kd lang’s “I’m Down To My Last Cigarette,” which went over well and suits my voice pretty well.

Saturday: the day was full of meetings. But first, I woke up, showered, walked to Coffee Bazaar for a big cup of coffee, a bagel with lox, cream cheese, onion and tomato, and some free wi-fi. I met up with Wiley’s partner, Michael, and we talked while I checked email and booked an appointment with some guy from Bear411 who’ll be visiting San Francisco around New Year’s Day.

We walked back to the Triple-R, where he helped Pete and Tommi get breakfast ready for our first meeting of the day. At 09:30, the board and the steering committee dined together and had some fundamental info passed out, including what PrideWorks does, a discussion of the recent history of Team Bear and how it came to pass that PrideWorks took the team on as a project.

Then we had some brainstorming session, talked about the team survey we conducted back in July/August, as well as the all-hands team meeting we had after the ride, to talk about what sorts of things people brought up during those de-briefings. After that, we walked up to the River Grill for lunch, and headed over to the old railroad bridge/pedestrian bridge to talk about some upcoming events PrideWorks wants to do in the next year.

From there, the two groups split up and while the board met about their stuff, the steering committee met separately to discuss broad ideas for fund raising, timeline planning for social and training and other events, how to use technology to get our message out better, and other things. It was a pretty productive meeting.

Saturday night, we had a supper that was kinda horrible – my duck breast was raw in the middle, and quite unpleasant. Similar things could be said about the corned beef and prime rib, too.

But Tommi’s performance as MC of the three women comediennes was the highlight of the day – he’s a real professional and it shows. He handles the crowd well, sings like a dream, and does the glamour cabaret drag like he was born in greasepaint. The comics were funny, too, and I got the contact info of one of them who is interested in helping Team Bear do some fund raising events.

Sunday: low key. another trip to Coffee Bazaar, another breakfast meeting, then we lounged by the pool for a while, took in the hot tub, then finally Wiley and I drove in a caravan with Michael home with a stop at the Petaluma Outlet Stores where I picked up new socks and a couple of pieces of work out clothes. Very inexpensive!

Finally, got back home and into bed. My own comfy bed.

B’harnie

It turns out that my roommate’s dog, B’harnie, has cancer after all. His last dog, Betty, had kidney failure. I remember when B’harnie came home two weeks after Betty died. He’s not dead yet, though, and he’s still alert and moving around well.

He’s a good dog.
