What a strange day. It seemed to start out well, with a telephone message from the table manufacturer saying the table was ready to ship, and they they just needed to get the remaining balance on the table. This is very exciting, as I am thrilled and my mind has been racing with possibilities about this table and what I am going to be able to do with it.
So, my noon client arrived and we were working on opening up his iliopsoas (hip flexor) muscles to relieve some of his back pain. I had gone deep into his abdomen to release the psoas on both sides. Then I had him sit on the edge of my table, and was doing a tense and relax stretch on him. The first one went well, but when I started to do the second hip, one of the diagonal support struts on my table snapped, collapsing the table. Thankfully, my client was only startled, but since the table was set very low to the ground, the client was not hurt. We finished the session on the massage chair, and then did some floor work in the Thai style.
What a mortifying thing to have happen, but also what weird timing. For some time now,
mamoosh had asked me if I wanted his old table to have as a spare. And at my last dentist visit, he was there and again offered the table – he wanted to help clear some space in his garage. So I accepted the offer, and called him up to explain what had happened.
He was hosting a birthday dinner for
arthole , but when I explained the urgency, he agreed to let me come by and pick it up, so I dashed off in a zipcar to Concord to pick it up.
Dashed being a generous word for what actually did happen – leaving San Francisco at the height of rush hour traffic. Sweet Merciful Pie! Fortunately, though, the Democratic National Convention was also just starting up, and I listened to all the speeches on NPR, so I had something to occupy my mind from wanting to slit my wrists at the foolishness of trying to drive over to the East Bay.
Fortunately, the iPhone’s GPS works just fine, and I arrived with nary a hitch. John answered the door, and led me to the garage. Wow, it’s as wide as my current table, but not as long, but that’s ok. Matthew came out a few moments later and we chatted a bit, but they were wanting to finish preparing for their dinner, so I loaded the table into the trunk of the car, thanked them, and got back on the road.
Of course, I forgot that you have to have cash to get back across the bay bridge, so I ended up looking for an ATM to get some cash. I don’t know why exactly, but I ended up in East Oakland near Fruitvale BART, and drove back up 880 to the Bay Bridge.
Finally, though, I got across the bridge, and dropped the table off, returned the zipcar, and went to the Lone Star to pass out Bear Week bear tags. But weirdly, no one came by to pick one up! This is weird, because I spent Saturday and Sunday passing them out to those who purchased them. Well, that’s not for me to worry about any longer, as I get to give the tags back to Pete today.
Today, I called the table manufacturer and they told me they shipped the table yesterday even though they hadn’t run my card yet. I let them know that the money was sitting in the account for them to debit it on my business card. Very exciting! I have the shipping information and will call the company up today to get an estimated arrival date and arrange for delivery. The new table weighs around 200 pounds and comes in a big wooden crate, so I have to arrange with the building management to have to big sliding door on O’Farrell Street opened when the truck arrives.
I can’t wait!
