I went and saw Sex and the City on Sunday with Pete. We didn’t get to the first show of the day, so had to pay full price. That made me just a tiny bit sad. The movie is beautiful and somewhat funny, but a more heavy than it had to be. Pay the matinee price and you’ll be happier!
After the movie, I convinced Mr. Curmudgeon to come with me to the Eagle. He kept wanting to just go home, but I was having none of that, and made him come with me. We had a couple of cocktails and/or beers and got in some good socializing. I think he was happy that way, as he had been staying at home too much lately.
From there, I had called
Big John in San Francisco, who wanted to know if I wanted to go to Sunday Dinner at Emery Bay Public Market to meet
Al Badger,
Mike (progbear), and Mike’s new boyfriend (?), Scott. So I made a quick phone call to
MarkOSF and asked him if he also wanted to go, knowing that if Mark wanted to go, then Pete would go, too. Hooray, Mark wanted to go, so I was able to convince Pete to go.
John and Mark arrived in John’s vanagon not too long after and picked us up for the ride over to Emeryville and dinner. I had fish ball noodle soup and tempura for supper, and some gelato for dessert. The good thing about EBPM is that there are so many food stalls there that one gets many delightful options. The conversation was pleasant enough, but seemed to spin off into two only somewhat overlapping conversations: John, Mike, Albadger and Scott at one end, and Pete, Mark, and I at the other, with only a little bit of crosstalk. It was fun, but the topics were definitely different.
Scott had to leave, so we said goodbye to him, then the rest of us went into Borders and browsed for a short time. John wanted to head to Trader Joe’s and Albadger needed to get home, and Mike departed. So, the four of us remaining headed over to the TJ’s nearby and did some shopping after a short gas stop, where I had to use the restroom. My guts were started to rumble and groan, and the sudden speeding up of my intestines was worrisome. In TJ’s, I started growing concerned about being able to keep my continence, but I plowed through my shopping and got out to the van as quickly as possible.
Across the bridge, we dropped Pete off, then headed to Mark’s, where I again had to head into the restroom. Oh, dear. OK, things started calming down, so we headed home, and I made a mad dash to the bathroom again, where I was doubled over with intestinal cramps. But there wasn’t anything to expel at that point, just that weird urgency and my colon’s peristalsis pushing on nothing.
I sat in my desk chair and did some abdominal massage to myself to try to calm down the viscera, and that seemed to help, since I had already gotten rid of whatever was troubling me. Sleep came at around 01:00, and I woke up feeling fine.
My three clients Monday went off without a hitch, and I headed to the Castro to make my deposits, had a cocktail at the Edge, talked to Mike A. about Team Bear stuff, then went to Pete’s place to hang with him and Michael H. Supper was rice, veggies and some sauteed beef. After the visit, Michael gave me a ride home on his way back to Redwood City, and I came home, read for a time, and went to bed.
Today I have two clients and a trip to the gym. I’m happy to finally be feeling normal enough to get back there, too, after the ALC and the post-ALC week.
