I’m not sure what I was thinking tonight when I thought about making supper. It started out innocuously enough, with two chicken thighs and some freshly grated ginger and a thinly sliced onion, which I was caramelizing in butter. So far, so good, right?
Well, I had this crazy idea – what if I make a peanut butter and “jelly” sauce, using merlot for the grape flavor? Well, after getting them to emulsify together, the taste wasn’t horrible (yet), but it wasn’t what I was looking for, so I thought, how just a dash of cinammon and some chili powder? Finally, I added some cocoa, thinking it’ll be more like mole!
Well, let’s just say that the mouth feel of this concoction was like an oil slick. The texture was like slightly gritty peanut butter. But the taste, gentle reader, the taste. At first bite, it didn’t really have much of a taste at all. It’s as if all the flavors canceled each other out. But after a few bites of this slimy mess, it started to remind me of Prison Loaf. It tasted like punishment.
Even thinking about it right now sent a shiver down my spine. It tasted like punishment.
Question of the Moment: What is the worst thing you have ever concocted to eat?
