There’s a Hole

OK I have a gap in my Netflix queue – with what should I fill it?

Edit: I have seen thousands of movies in my life… so dig deep. I’m also interested in the essential television series of since 2005. Besides BSG and Heroes, that is, which I have seen.

How to Spend a Sunday

On Saturday, I had two clients, and if you were paying attention at all this weekend, then you read about my disastrous supper. I didn’t exactly mention in my post, but I put that punishment sauce on the chicken, brocolli and stuff, and ate most of it, because I was starving from work and needed the protein, despite it tasting like punishment.

Also, during the day on Saturday, Jason was sending me text messages on his drive out here to San Francisco from Jackson Hole, Wyoming, to be with his new man, who isn’t me. This whole thing is confusing to me. I want him to be happy (not that I think moving in with a middle-aged drunk queen who’s clearly preying upon him is going to make him happy), but It does make it more challenging to find my happy place about our break-up. I keep asking myself, why does this have to be so drawn out? I’ve never had a guy leave me for another guy before. Maybe that’s part of it. I keep wondering what I could possibly do to compete and win him back. Isn’t that lame?

Honestly, I don’t know what I’m going to do. I (and just about everyone who knows anything about the situation) “know” that this relationship isn’t going to last. Or maybe it will. I should seek serenity, as there’s nothing I can do at this very moment in time. If and when the opportunity presents itself, I expect I’ll know the answer and trust myself to make the best decision for me.

OK, that out of the way, on to Sunday.

Sunday, I did something I rarely do: I worked on a client. He had tried to make an appointment on Saturday, but I was already booked up, and when he explained just how stressed out and sore he was (a longtime client), I agreed to see him on Sunday morning at 11:00.

After the session, I had brunch at Eppler’s Bakery: a ham and smoked turkey sandwich on rye bread, coconut cream pie, and coffee. From there, I headed to the Castro to hear djrottenrobbiedjrottenrobbie spinning at Daddy’s 440. I popped in for the first twenty minutes, then decided that it was too nice a day to be in a bar, so I wandered around, ended up outside The Edge for a bit, right as my friend, Pete, was exiting the place. So we hugged and I could see that he was upset, so after taking a quick peek in the bar to see if anyone interesting was in there, he and I walked to Zapata for him to eat something while I sipped an horchata and we shared our stories.

Jason should be in town now, I was telling him, as he had stayed Saturday night in Reno, and the passes were clear. And he was telling me about the guy who sub-letted his apartment to him and the court battle that is going on about that. We decided to head to his place and smoke some pot and continue to talk.

Two hours later, his friend, Jason, showed up, and the three of us hung out for a while, listening to music and talking. Jason had to do laundry, and I was hungry again, since it was seven hours since I had had that lunch. So Jason and I bid Pete farewell, and he walked up with me to Thaihouse Express on Castro and 19th. The queue was too long there, though, and his place was just half a block down toward 18th, so I walked him home and we exchanged phone numbers.

Next up, I had to find food, and I was set on Thai, so I went to Thai Chef on 18th, and ordered the papaya salad with shrimp, and pork in green curry with sticky rice and an iced coffee. It was all really good, and the service was attentive. I could swear that the waiter wanted to crawl under the table from how attentive he was.

From there, I wanted to head back to 440 to hear the remainder of Rotten Robbie’s set, but by the time I got there, he had just wrapped up and left, so I had a nice, if brief, chat with tonymorgTonyMorg(an), a Jack and Coke, and a lovely walk home.

The Sunday reminded me that I don’t have to live like a monk all the time, and that I actually do have friends who care about me, and who I care about, too. I think sometimes I get too wrapped up in my head that I forget to live.

LAST DAY TO VOTE FOR PACO!

Today is the final day of the Gay Internet Radio Live DJ Contest. The top two winners win a whole bunch of cool prizes, including being able to perform at Gay Days Orlando this year, and their own weekly radio show on GIRL. whereispacoDJ Francisco Guerra is livejournal’s own whereispaco, and we must all vote for him to win!

“What’s In It For Me?” you ask. Well, we’d all be helping an amazing DJ to boost his career. And we’d get the satisfaction of knowing that the LJ bear community can represent. So it’s an appeal to the nobler aspects of your being.

But in truth, I have been listening to this contest since it was started, and Paco’s work is clearly superior to the other DJs in this contest. His music choices are better, smarter. His technical skills are amazing, especially his transitions and layering of songs to weave a magical storyland of musical delight. It’s like a sonic tapestry, filled with aural colors and patterns and really good songs.

He is really close to winning the whole she-bang, and our help can put him over the top!

One does have to register to vote, but it’s quick and easy, and non-spammy. Vote Today!

Experiments in Food… Gone Horribly, Horribly Wrong

I’m not sure what I was thinking tonight when I thought about making supper. It started out innocuously enough, with two chicken thighs and some freshly grated ginger and a thinly sliced onion, which I was caramelizing in butter. So far, so good, right?

Well, I had this crazy idea – what if I make a peanut butter and “jelly” sauce, using merlot for the grape flavor? Well, after getting them to emulsify together, the taste wasn’t horrible (yet), but it wasn’t what I was looking for, so I thought, how just a dash of cinammon and some chili powder? Finally, I added some cocoa, thinking it’ll be more like mole!

Well, let’s just say that the mouth feel of this concoction was like an oil slick. The texture was like slightly gritty peanut butter. But the taste, gentle reader, the taste. At first bite, it didn’t really have much of a taste at all. It’s as if all the flavors canceled each other out. But after a few bites of this slimy mess, it started to remind me of Prison Loaf. It tasted like punishment.

Even thinking about it right now sent a shiver down my spine. It tasted like punishment.

Question of the Moment: What is the worst thing you have ever concocted to eat?

Make That Rent

The Beginning and End of a Month are always very busy for me. Now to find the people in the middle of the month with money!

After my afternoon client yesterday, I came home, ordered Chinese food, and enjoyed a quiet meal. Then Duke called me at 22:30 and wanted to go work out, so I packed my gym bag (well, OK, my messenger bag) and waited for him to pick me up.

I am definitely getting stronger in my shoulders, which were the subject of last night’s efforts. I think it’ll soon be time for posting photographs.

Who wants to see a nearly naked, nearly muscled bear man?

More MyMiniCity

Went to the vacuum cleaner parts store today to get a new filter for my vac. It’s one of those cyclone vacuums and has a big clear plastic cup to catch the debris. This particular filter goes in the cup and prevents the gunk from escaping. Now I can start vacuuming again, hooray!

MyMiniCity still needs people to click on it: it’s a silly game and harmless.

http://bigredpaul.myminicity.com/ind – to increase industry.

If we get it to a population of 100, we can add to the transportation infrastructure. It’s only 20 people away from that goal, so why not click? If you comment on here with your myminicity URL, I’ll reciprocate.

Over the Ocean and Into the Square

Last night, after my evening client, I rode to Castro station, where Duke picked me up for our trek to the Ocean Avenue 24 Hour Fitness. We had never been to that one, and we wanted to check it out.

When we arrived, right around 21:15 or so, the place was packed with people. I went in with a sense of dismay that we would be able to use the machines we wanted without having to wait around too much. It was chest and triceps day, and we got the chest workout in fairly well, with only a little waiting, but the triceps workout was filled with intervals of standing around waiting for the necessary machines to become free. I was feeling overwhelmed by all the people, and I hadn’t eaten for several hours, so as soon as we were done, I told Duke that we had to get out of there.

We went to Orphan Andy’s and had a late supper.

Today’s work was nice, and when done, I headed to Midnight Squares to angel for their Advanced square dancing class. Didn’t do much dancing as there were ample people there, so mostly I socialized and made weird sound effects to the amusement of some of the dancers.

Duke worked out with his partner tonight while I was at class, though, so I have to figure out what to do about that instead.

It’s all crazy.

Two Gyms?

Haven’t worked out in a few days with Duke, as the last time we went to work out, some gung-ho newbie decided to follow the rules and not just let me in. So, last night, as I was trying to determine my budget for the next month, I was casually looking at the 24-hour fitness website and noticed that they are running a $29/month all-club access special. So, I plopped the money down ($29 initiation fee, first and last months fee) and voila, I am now a member of 24-hour Fitness again, in addition to Gold’s Gym. It’s a month-to-month payment plan, so you’re not locked in to some long-term contract.

The special is online only, and expires on 3/27/2008 – so if you’ve been looking join a gym, but the cost has been prohibitive, now’s your chance to sign-up!
