Vintage Foggy City Dancers Performance Team Videos

One of the founding members of Foggy City Dancers posted these amazing videos of the FCD Performance Team. The first two were two songs performed in 1992 in Albuquerque at the IAGSDC Convention. The second two were a performance at the 1986 Convention in San Francisco.

In the first video, you can hear the delightful otterpop58Andy (otterpop58) calling to the classic, “Mountain Music.”

Thank you.

I had a client yesterday who’s partner in the Netherlands, with whom I have never met, recommended me. The partner learned about me from reading the livejournals of clients. Tuesday, the client went on my website and booked an appointment and paid for it. We did the session Wednesday.

I’m pretty amazed by this – thanks to each and every one of you who is or has been my client. You are all special and precious to me.

Get Government Out of the Marriage Business?

Taking Marriage Private – New York Times

Here, Stephanie Coontz opines that the country should revert to the pre-19th century style of recognizing marriage – letting the churches decide who’s married, and getting the government out of the marriage business. I suppose this works out just fine for churchgoers, but that leaves millions of people out in the cold. Justices of the Peace would still be necessary, or an equivalent role, for those non-churchgoers.

I say, let consenting adults decide their own relationships (be they mono- or polyamorous) – let the government’s role be that of record-keeper, not the barrier to entry that keeps people from creating and protecting, and yes, even dissolving their own families. Obviously, parents must remain obligated to their minor children regardless of their marital status, but beyond that, I don’t see that it’s the government’s business with whom I co-habit or love.

Question: Who should be allowed to be married? Do you want to be married?

Today’s Gym Adventure

dhpbearPlumpy and I went to the gym for our normal Friday morning work out. As we drove over to the gym, we were speculating on how crowded it would be. I thought that it would either be hella packed or nearly empty. Hella packed won the issue. I figured that all the people who normally go early before work slept in and came in the usually not very crowded late mid-morning. That, and perhaps people feeling guilty about the 3000 calorie meal they consumed the night before!

Well, he and I did our Tai Chi and stretching routine, which takes about 20 minutes, then 5 minutes on the stationary bike, the the weights (leg day), where I upped the weight on all the exercises. I can feel myself getting stronger and stronger. It’s a great feeling. After the weights, 30 minutes on the treadmill, and I’m ready to shower and go home.

Now it’s back to work after a few days of rest. A boy’s gotta eat after all!

Mondays aren’t Thursday, unless Thor is in the Van

Yesterday, the entire UGH household decided to go to OAK to pick up thornycThornycquia. He was looking as lovely as ever, and the four of us schlepped over to Emery Bay Public Market for lunch. A delightful time was had by all, and when we were leaving, I noticed this car parked near the Vanagon, and had to snap the bumper. The optimism made me smile.

From there, we headed over to Concord to go to the Fry’s Electronics in an attempt to find Thor a replacement battery for his camera, as the current one was no longer holding a charge. I purchased the latest SimCity game, SimCity Societies. Sadly, I misread the system requirements, and do not have a video card capable of playing the game, so I have to either: a) return the game, or b) upgrade my video card. I’ll think on that over the next few days and decide.

Two more short trips: one to the world’s largest donut (ask bigjohnsfBig John in San Francisco about that one), and to get some bubble tea before heading home again. We dropped Thor off at his host’s house and headed home. It was a long, but very fun day!

What Do I call this one?

I’ve been on a cooking jag lately, at least as far as Sunday Dinner is concerned. This past sunday, I cooked up two cups of basmati rice. While that was cooking, I boiled 6 small or medium sized golden beets. Also, I got the wok ready and stir fried some sliced onions, fresh grated ginger. I cubed four boneless, skinless chicken breast halves, and dusted them in cornstarch, adding them to the mix. Then I added the beets, which I had also cubed. Finally, three or four heads of baby bok choi, with the leaves separated. I made a sauce of tangerine juice, mushroom soy sauce.

It was suprisingly tasty. I was really surpised by it.

Meanwhile, markosfMarkOsf and hardybearPeter (hardybear) and I went to see albadgerAl Badger perform in the San Leandro Players’ rendition of William Inge’s Bus Stop. As it was the final performance, I won’t give it more than a cursory review, but every player was very good, even the weakest of them, the actor who played Carl, the bus driver. Al Badger was especially good as the sheriff. Yes, I know, I’m probably biased, but I thought he was very good.

From the theater, we three came back on BART, transfered to MUNI and went to golden produce on Church, where I picked up the aforementioned beets and bok choi. bigjohnsfBig John in San Francisco picked us up from the produce market on his way home from visiting a friend, and we all hung out at UGH while I made us dinner.

Albadger showed up sometime later with dessert – a key lime pie. And that was a perfect way to end the day.
