The ivory tower reaches toward the sky,
And those beneath it wonder why
It’s crumbling as we watch, “Ow, my eye”

its ruins failed, its ramparts crushed
But still its essence reaching, hushed
Hazy sunlight revealing age
Of tenured savants fading from the page

Wondering about the savants that first dried the ink,
Who are they, I thought…with a one eyed wink
Those intellects who disappear beyond the brink
