Joint Mobilization

Last Friday at school, we were supposed to have “Stress Management” class, which is an accupressure class of some sort, but instead we had “Joint Mobilization.” My back was not too bad, so I decided to go in to school and at the very least observe the work if not participate.

When I got there, one of the women asked if I would work with here for that class session, and I agreed. We watched the demonstration, then we partnered up and got to work. I went through moving just about every synovial joint (the freely moveable joints) through its range of motion on her. She was really zoned out by the end.

She worked on me next, and at first I thought it was going to be terrible, because the toe joints were really tender. But when she got to my hips, wow, I had this huge emotional release. One of my lumbar vertebrae had popped back into place, and a loud moan escaped my lips. When she got up to my shoulders, I was laughing and crying at the same time, so intense were the feelings of having been opened up. I could barely get up off the table, but when I did, I felt free of pain for the first time in weeks. I was light-headed and giddy and bouncy.

It hasn’t totally lasted, but my shoulders do feel a whole lot better, and my back, while still a little sore, feels better, too.
