Had lunch with a young man I met off b411 yesterday. We met at Muddy Waters on Church near Market for a cup of coffee, then crossed the street to Red Jade for a quick bite of lunch. From there, I suggested we walk around for a while, as it was a simply stunning day, so we trekked north on Church to Hermann and headed east to Duboce Park for a stroll up the path there. It seemed like a good idea, so we walked up Duboce to Buena Vista Park. OK, maybe I could have figured out a slightly less steep path to the base of the park, or maybe I was feeling like I had to show this guy who’s 15 years younger than me that I could walk up the hill even as bulky as I am. Of course, he had no trouble at all, being a pole vaulter on the local gay track team and all, but I was huffing and puffing up the hill. Mind, it’s a pretty darned steep climb up from Duboce Park. Once at the park, we climbed the stairs and started walking around, past the tennis courts and up, through the cypress and pine and redwoods and other beautiful greenery. The sun peeked around the clouds, dappling the path.
Once we got to the top of the hill, the view was pretty darned spectacular, the sun warm, the breeze cool. The stroll back down was much easier and comfortable. We walked all the way back over to UGH and sat upon the stoop, and ended with a nice long hug. What a sweet man.
Today, I’m going to take another long walk like that. A little progress every day.
