Lots of stuff to say, where to begin. Well, let’s see, this past Saturday I attended Rich Reel’s Newer Caller Workshop at the Quaker Meeting House here in Frank-baby. That was an eye-opening experience, to be sure, and I was just about the worst prospective caller there, except for my singing call, where I totally ruled. So, I’m going to keep practicing.
Sunday, I had a client, some work for the porno client (yes, I got convinced to work for him again), then ran off with
Frank-baby (ednixon) to the Marin Headlands to shoot some video of the Golden Gate Bridge - so we set up a tripod and aimed the camera at the bridge for about 45 minutes.
Plumpylumps (dhpbear) took the footage and burned an endless loop DVD of it for Frank to use on this low power TV station he set up in Coalinga. After a month of the bridge, they are going to move the station to Santa Cruz and try to sell it to some broadcaster. While on the headlands, I found a pair of Steve Madden sunglasses on the ground.
Monday I had a massage client, more porno client work, and
Big John in SF (bigjohnsf),
Frank-baby (ednixon) and I took a drive down to Palo Alto Fry’s, where I picked up a new case for my PC. The full-size tower case was just too big and clunky, so I got this sleek little black and silver mid-size tower for Beaujolais, my XP box. In a fortuitous coincidence, Frank had a cast-off video card from Sue-Ellen, a Radeon 9200 things with 128MB of RAM, with which I put my old Radeon 7200 to rest.
Tuesday morning I went to Emeryville to NHI to sign my Federal Student Loan documents. June 1st, I’ll be a student again. I rode BART to MacArthur, hopped the Emery-Go-Round to Hollis and 59th, which is exactly where the school is located, so it’s a sweet, short commute. The program is ten months long and at the end I’ll be able to take my NCBMTB national certification exam. Most states that regulate massage therapy at the state level recognize this credential for their licensing requirements, for the ones that do not, I will have more than enough training regardless to practice there. All this means is that I do not have to be stuck in San Francisco or Sacramento (or the other counties/cities in California) where the amount of training I have is legal.
When I arrived back home to UGH, I dismantled my computer and put it into the new case, and reveled in the new look and quiet, and returned Plumpy’s power supply to him that he had lent me when mine died last week.
John and I went to Foggy City Dancer’s Club Night, where Neil Heather was calling. We had a fun evening and I was dancing with
Peter (hardybear) when Neil called a Dive Thru. The call has two couples facing each other and the couple to the center of the square makes an arch and the outer couple passes under, then the arching couple does a California Twirl, where the “girl” passes under the arm of the “boy,” ending with them facing the opposite direction from their original position. During this call the tendon that attaches my right deltoid to my humerus decided that then would be a good time to resist that motion, and with a loud yelp I clutched my right shoulder and left the square mid-tip in terrible pain.
I went outside and bawled for a couple of minutes, trying to get the muscle to loosen back up, reaching under the deltoid with my fingers and lifting it off the shoulder, massaging it with my left hand. Gerry and someone else came out to see if I was alright, we all went back in to the hall, he made me an ice pack, and I sat icing my shoulder for a few minutes. One of the actions of the deltoid is abduction of the shoulder, that is, lifting the arm out and away from the body laterally. The pain occurs in the medial belly of the deltoids three bellies, and shoots down to the tendinous attachment at the humerus.
A group of us went to Firewood in the Castro, which has re-implemented their 20% off Tuesdays. I ordered the 4 sides with dolmas, red peppers stuffed with goat cheese, roasted beets, and a roasted head of garlic with some bread, and a lemonade. The pain was subsiding and I enjoyed the company of Neil, Greg H.,
Big John in SF (bigjohnsf),
markosf,
Peter (hardybear),
Ed (sfbearhoney), and Rusty J.
Eventually, everyone wandered off to their various destination, and I came home and slept. This morning, the shoulder feels better, but I’ll be careful with it over the course of the day.
