Golden Beet Schnitzel
2-3 small or medium or 1 large golden beet(s)
2 eggs
flour
salt and pepper
chili powder, optional
parsley flakes, or fresh parsley, chopped
butter
olive oil
sour cream, optional
Wash the beets and steam them between 30-45 minutes, until a knife goes in easily. While beets are steaming, mix flour, salt, pepper, chili powder, and parsley. Remove from steam and peel. Slice beets into 1/2″ slices. Break the eggs into a flat bowl and beat with a fork until they are well blended.
In a large frying pan, add butter and olive oil and bring up to medium high heat, you want about equal parts of oil and butter, and about 1/4″ depth.
Dredge the beets in the eggs, then in the flour mixture until lightly coated. Fry the beets until they are deep golden brown, about 8 minutes per side. Drain onto paper towel, and serve with sour cream.
They are good - crispy on the outside, sweet and tender on the inside.
After the triumphant performance of the square dancing mummies at SF Coronation on Saturday night, and the busy open house passing out leaflets, I spent the rest of Sunday sleeping, then preparing dinner for the Sunday Dinner™ crowd. We did burrito night, so I didn’t have a huge amount to do: cooking black and refried beans, chopping an onion, grating some jack cheese, and opening the salse and guacamole containers that
Big John in SF had brought home from Trader Joe’s, as well as heating the tortillas. I could feel myself coming down with some sort of sore throat. That throat has been a bit of a bother since, with hoarseness and slight tenderness.
Yesterday, though, I determined to get out of the house and went with my buddy, Kelly, to the Metreon to see the IMAX movie Roving Mars. It was beautiful to behold, but awfully short for the $10.50 price we paid. After that, we played a game of hyperbowl, then he dropped me off back at UGH, and he took off to the Lone Star while I readied to dance at Western Star’s mainstream class. It is fun to go and be an Angel at their class, as it’s a very different group from Foggy City’s plus class.
Today, I’ve been laying low, just trying to get my throat feeling better. I start that new job tomorrow and have massages on Thursday and Friday, so I want to be well.

Square dancing mummies were the most novel act at the imperial court’s coronation, “Hot Egyptian Night.” Last year’s emperor, John-Richard, AKA Sister Penny Coastal, came and asked Foggy City if we’d provide some dancers for his step-down performance. A bunch of us volunteered, and he and his partner and a friend of theirs also danced. It was fun performing, but man, coronation is a tedious evening. You can see more pictures here.
In other news, today was the first of two open houses for the sale of Gryphon House West, of which UGH is but one the two units. The realtors escorted 18 groups through, and we handed out a leaflet to each person that came through. We have one more Sunday open house, then the auction of the place on the 12th.
Today would be
Cameron (handlebear)’s birthday. We only interacted a few times in person and many times online, but he was such a bright shining spirit, and I miss him.
Tender Flesh, the 1997 Jesus “Jess” Franco sexploitation flick has been release by Shock-O-Rama Cinema as a double feature with Lust for Frankenstein. I’ve got a brand-new copy of it here, still in its wrapper. Does anyone want it? What would you do for them? The most creative, lurid, tawdry description will win the prize! Post your entry in reply to this topic over at trashfilmorgy.com, and when a week has gone by with no entries, I’ll announce the winner, and mail you your DVD!!!
I went to the interview yesterday with Clean Water Action, and met with a lovely lesbian named Mary. She and I hit it off really well, and I start next Wednesday for orientation and training. She thinks my deep voice will help me in convincing people to give money to their cause. I’ve been reading the script she gave me, and I think that I’ll be OK with it. It’s not cold calling; rather, it’s calling people who have donated or written letters (or both) in the past, and asking them to renew their membership, as well as letting them know what action they need to take, and what’s already been done.
It’s only 12-20 hours per week, so not a huge amount of time, and it will allow me to still focus most of my energy on my massage practice.

Yiff! check out that cute bunny bum!
Two on the bed and funs begun!
Face to face, belly to belly
No cologne, we like ‘em smelly
Easter’s coming and so am I
Leave on the Fursuits, groping some chum
Wet sticky grass under afternoon sky!
As long as I’m on the subject of referrals, did you know that if you refer three people to me who become appointments, that I’ll give you a free massage?
I had a massage this morning with a gentleman who was referred to me from a guy who’s never been on my table, but who has heard others “raving” about me. I wonder how to account this - for the two guys who raved, or the guy who’s never been on my table? or both?
Later, I wanted to take a nap, but I never got around to it, and then had dinner with a fellow from Alaska who’s down here straggling after IBR. Second-rate sushi never tasted so good!
