Beneath a stand of aspen
Where the liquid moon drips silver harmony
Onto the yellow melody of leaves
I tremble, my heart hesitates
At what nighttime magic it perceives
Murky mists creep o’er the canopy,
Envelope the space surrounding.
Quaking like my knees
An aching silence resounding
On a carpet of gold and grey,
almost silently I whisper to the wind, and it answers.
Much as a heart of fire, alive, pounding.
Silvered bark pale as a face in fright.
And my weary heart responds astounding.
