A Little Night Music

Looking for something fun to do tonight? Come and meet albadgerAlbadger and I at The Ashby Stage for a pay-what-you-want preview of their new production of Cabaret. We’re meeting at the the theater at 18:30, which is literally two blocks from Ashby BART. This production looks very sophisticated and adult, and if you are interested at all in supporting local theater, you should check this company out.

A Little Lunch

Sometimes inspiration strikes in odd ways; I was looking for a small nosh, and went foraging in the kitchen. I took out some tortillas, bacon, cheddar cheese, and Trader Joe’s smoky black bean dip. Cooking the bacon in the microwave, and spread the dip on two tortillas, then placed the bacon and cheese on each of the tortillas, covered them with another tortilla, and toasted them in the toaster-oven for a few minutes. It’s making my tummy happy…

Post-Turkey

Well, the turkey was yummy, but it was odd, because the very deepest parts of the bird were slightly undercooked, which fortunately, ten minutes in the microwave fixed. Next year, we’ll solve that little problem. I ended up changing a couple of things at the last minute. I made a pumpkin cheesecake instead of a pie and a cheesecake because when I was rolling out the dough for the crusts, I was one batch short, and I didn’t want to make more dough. I carmelized the pearl onions instead of making a cream sauce for them and the peas, and I didn’t make the cheese sauce for the brocolli. But I think the changes I made turned out for the better.

dhpbearPlumpy, bigjohnsfJohn, ursoUrso, tardisTom, and hardybearPeter all were at the table, and it was a fun and jovial conversation and evening.

My back started bothering me, though, so I headed to be at around 22:00. While I was laying in bed, my sister, Erica, called and we had a lovely conversation, getting all caught up.

I have two massages today, the the weekend largely free. We ran the race and fought the good fight, and this year’s Thanksgiving Marathon is over! Whew!

Cooking, cooking, cooking

I just finished with my afternoon client, and now it’s time to start cooking. The (very traditional, sorta) menu:

Roast turkey
Apple-sage stuffing
creamed peas w/pearl onions
mashed potatoes w/gravy
some form of turnip, probably mashed
candied carrots
stir-fried brussel sprouts
brocolli with cheese sauce
braised chard with bacon
cranberry relish
bavarian rolls
pumpkin pie
tangerine meringue pie
apple pie
cheesecake with pomegranate sauce

wish me luck! The cooking marathon has begun!

What the Heck Have I Been Up To?

A post of substance, huh? Hard to imagine at this point. Still, it’s just one of those weekend updates, so it’s not too substantial. Let’s get started:

Thursday - Friday

The tickle in my throat was a warning beacon to me that I’d better not take my clients lest I give them what I was feeling coming on. So I cancelled my appointments and headed out to sit in the sunshine and try to feel better. It seems to have worked, as by the time Movie Bears came along to see Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, my throat was feeling fine. Now if only my brain was working properly, I’d have not blurted out silly stuff during that annoying pre-movie snack cart guy’s spiel. Someday, I’ll have an actual wit, eh?

The movie was fantastic, and as many have already said, it is the best of the franchise so far. Dark and sexy and I swear I could hear the moisture flowing in the entire audience’s swoon when Stanislav Ianevski first appeared onscreen in his introductory role as Viktor Krum.

After the film, castrowoofEd gave sf_lukeLuke and I a ride over to the Lone Star, where I didn’t stay very long. Well, that’s a good thing, as it seems the Fates had something else in mind for me that evening - I knew that that collective moisture would come to good use! Well, at least my share of it, that is…

Saturday

Well, it wasn’t until 05:30 that I finally got to sleep, and I didn’t have long to sleep before I had to get up and get moving to meet a friend in the Castro for breakfast, and our trip to the San Francisco Zoo. We rode the L Taraval train to its last stop, then walked across Sloat Street to enter the zoo. It’s only $8.00 for SF Residents with ID, and $11 for all others. And it’s a beautiful facility in the midst of modernization. The African Savannah and Gorilla World exhibits are wonderful.

The history of the Zoo is fascinating, and I encourage you all who live here, and those who visit from abroad, to come and visit and support the Zoo.

Well, even with all its fascination, it was getting dark, so we boarded the train and headed back to the Castro, where we parted ways. The lack of sleep and overstimulation with caffeine was taking a toll, so I sat down for a few minutes at Starbucks to collect myself before heading home on the F Market streetcar.

Sunday

I was tired and wanted to just get caught up on sleep, so I stayed in and rested, occassionally napping and playing my character Plumpy on AVATAR MUD, a text-based multi-user adventure game. It’s fun, and you can connect with any telnet client here. Of course, you could use a client like zMUD with its advanced features, like I do.

As tardisTom Maher’s birthday is coming up this week, bigjohnsfJohn baked a cake for dessert for Sunday Dinner™.
