I missed last week’s class because of Hairrison Cooking, so here are combined notes:
California Twirl: Boy and Girl stand facing the same direction, boy’s right hand holding girl’s left. Boy raises up right arm, and as Girl passes under, Boy steps over to the right and turns 180 degrees, so that Boy and Girl end up facing the opposite direction, and in each other’s original position.
Dive Through: Two couples face each other, and the couple in the center makes an arch with their holding hands, and the other couple “dives” through the arch. There were two pairs of four dancers, with one couple in each pair back to back. These are the center couples, and they raise their center hands and the outside couples pass beneath, becoming the inside couple, and facing the other inside couple.
Wheel and Deal: Two couples form a same-facing line, and the couple on the left wheels around to the right, turning 180 degrees, and the couple on the right wheels around to the left, turning 180 degrees. The end position has the couple that started on the right in front of the left couple, facing opposite of their starting position.
Weave the Ring: Same as a Right and Left Grand, except with shoulder passes instead of hand grabs. Starting with one’s partner, pass right shoulders, then with the next dancer on left sides, continuing in right-left fashion until one gets back to one’s partner.
Variations on Circulate: Boys or Girls Circulate. The circulate call is performed by just the Boys or the Girls as the caller indicates.
Yellow Rock: Hug your corner.
Stack the Wood: Hug your partner.
I think that’s it for the calls tonight and last week.
A big group went to Crepevine on Irving at 7th tonight after class:
I have an early massage client tomorrow, so I’d better get to bed now…
