So Small

by Paul Brown on 28 April 2005

When the Bishop says to the chanter, “you are in control of how long the services are,” you know that he’s really asking you to speed it up! Well, that’s really hard. I get so caught up in the music that I lose all sense of time. Alas, what was supposed to be a 90-120 minute service tonight took 2.5 hours! Ah, but what fun.

Of course, there were twelve, count ‘em, twelve Gospel readings tonight, and with each reading, there were many many prayers. Even with knowing how to breathe and support and all that, my voice is tired! It was so tired last night, that I did almost no talking today, and as little as possible tomorrow. There are two services tomorrow – the taking down from the cross, and the lamentations at the tomb. Then on Saturday, there are also two services. And then we all collapse, having crossed the finish line.
