If I weren’t singing at church tonight, I’d be going to see MOOG, a film by Hans Fjellestad, at the Other Cinema.

Tri-bicycle
Ah, the endless invention of the human mind – this idea fascinates me: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7683127/
The idea here is that a tricycle transforms into a bicycle as the rider accelerates and then goes back to three wheels as the rider decelerates.
why the gods above me,
who must be in the know,
think so little of me,
they allowed you to go.

So, Plumpy gave me a spare 1/8″ to dual RCA jacks patch cable, and I hooked it up to the stereo system in the front room, so I could hook my iPod up to it. Today was my first client with the iPod playing into the stereo, and wow, what a tremendous difference for the better! No more boom box in the massage room – hooray! No fuss, no muss, just push play and let it go! Hooray!

1) Do you have a favorite poet?
I have loved Maya Angelou for many years – she writes so well of personal empowerment and sexuality.
2) Where do you see your singing taking you?
Well, I have always dreamed of having an accompanist or a trio and putting together a jazz cabaret set. But to find the people who really want to do it is the challenge. Otherwise, I sing for my own pleasure.
3) How does massage work satisfy you?
Oh, goodness. I’ve written so much about my belief that it’s of critical importance to serve other people, to help others, to love others. Massage satisfies that need. Massage is tangible, intimate, immediate, active. It has helped me physically – I’ve lost a lot of weight and strengthened my body. It helps me spiritually, as giving to others reaches a deep place within my being and strokes it. It helps me financially, keeping a roof over my head. And helps me mentally, as the work gives a clarity of mind and a focus unlike anything else I’ve ever done.
4) Are you comfortable being naked?
I’m naked right now! Two summers ago, I worked at Rancho Cicada Retreat in Plymouth doing massage. In case you didn’t know, RCR is a clothing optional campground. I prefer to be naked whenever possible.
5) Quiche or hungry man breakfast?
Um, both? Quiche is a pretty hearty breakfast, but I do loves me some pancakes and over easy eggs, too.
So Small
When the Bishop says to the chanter, “you are in control of how long the services are,” you know that he’s really asking you to speed it up! Well, that’s really hard. I get so caught up in the music that I lose all sense of time. Alas, what was supposed to be a 90-120 minute service tonight took 2.5 hours! Ah, but what fun.
Of course, there were twelve, count ‘em, twelve Gospel readings tonight, and with each reading, there were many many prayers. Even with knowing how to breathe and support and all that, my voice is tired! It was so tired last night, that I did almost no talking today, and as little as possible tomorrow. There are two services tomorrow – the taking down from the cross, and the lamentations at the tomb. Then on Saturday, there are also two services. And then we all collapse, having crossed the finish line.

Three down, five to go
Last night’s service was long and long and long. We started at 19:30 and didn’t finish until 21:30, and of that time, all but about 20 minutes of it is me singing or reading. This isn’t to say that the priests don’t do anything, but they are often doing things simultaneously to my singing, or during some of the long passages, they are sitting waiting to do their next thing.
So, I’m not talking today, at least, as little as possible to get the job done. And there are still five services to go!
