lazy bear images, part 4

by Paul Brown on 24 July 2003

friday dawned with me still floating pretty high from the previous evening’s escapades. my salad the night before was well-received, i danced my ass off, and got to both top and bottom. how sweet is that?

with my funk long gone, i put those people who had been affecting me on the “barbara, please!” list. funny, but it seemed to work, and my mood was being sustained throughout the day. i swam in the river, napped, did some massage, and generally relaxed. rocky from san diego introduced me on wednesday night to bacardi limon and seven-up – what a lovely drink. this evening, i repayed the favor by putting a slice of lime in it and serving it up to him. yum yum.

darren and ray wanted to go dancing at the bunkhouse again – it’s supposed to be 70s disco night! we traipsed down there and found the dj playing the most obscure disco tunes ever – even i didn’t know many of them. we danced anyway, but when i it became apparent that the four of us – ray, darren, paul, and i – were the only ones dancing, i went to the dj and asked him if he intended to play obscure disco tunes all night, or songs the audience knew. he replied that he thought this crowd was more rock-n-roll. i told him that half the demographic here lived through the disco era, and the other half loved it, so if he wanted to have a pumpin’ dance floor, he should play some well-known disco tunes. he seemed to appreciate this advice, and the next song he played was donna summer’s “bad girls,” and when he did that, the dance floor suddenly had 50 men on it, pumping their fists and stomping to the beat. i led a couple of screams. rock-on!

of course, with this wonderful audience, i had to be the show off. so during one of the songs, i did the splits followed by a yoga shoulder stand, rolled up and hopped to my feet. well, that wasn’t such a good idea, as i did the splits just a bit faster than i normally do during my morning stretch, and i pulled my left hamstrings. really badly. they are still purple and bruised, but the pain is lessening considerably. well, just as i got up, i saw hubert the train conductor looking at me as i had just finished my move, and he took to the floor. man, that man can move! he dances so well, that i just had to dance with him, so i did – for about 90 more minutes.

finally, i couldn’t take too much more, so i headed back to camp – limped back, is more like it. when i got there, i took in a hot tub soaking. that’s when i met jason, a fish ecophysiologist at uc davis. we chatted about white sturgeon, the fish he studies. funny, but he hasn’t had any caviar yet. we kissed and cuddled for just a tiny bit, and i was reaching down to grab his left booty when my hand stumbled across something metallic. what do i have in my pocket? i pulled it out to see a beautifully made native american silver ring with turquoise and red coral in the form of a stylized bear claw. it wasn’t jason’s, so i pocketed it and decided to ask at saturday’s lunch if anyone lost a ring.

jason only lives a few blocks from me here in midtown, so i’m hopeful that we may get together for dinner sometime.

my leg aching, i lamed my way down the stair and off to my tent, to dream of beard rubs and wet sloppy kisses.
