my lazy bear weekend started on the previous saturday at gordon and chuck’s place, welcoming tracker jack into town from chicago. i’d had a crush on him for the past five years or so, and it was difficult to be around him and think straight. but after hanging with him for several hours over the course of the weekend, i’m over it.
monday found me in gordon’s mother’s kitchen, cooking up the ingredients for spaghetti sauce and bagging up chicken to marinate. i browned about 45 pounds of ground beef, well over 100 cloves of garlic, about 20 pounds of onions. i bagged up 75 pounds of chicken thighs and breasts into ziploc bags with a handful of garlic cloves into each bag, and some teriyaki sauce. all of that took about three or four hours, i guess.
when i was done cooking and with cleaning up the surprisingly small mess – i didn’t spill anything – i was back at gordon’s house where i met marco, jack’s date for the week. they met at bear pride in may and marco is a very nice guy.
i played the dray animal for most of tuesday as gordon took me to sam’s club three times, where we bought 30 cases of bottles water, 600 sodas, 125 pounds of new york steak slabs, tons of other stuff. each time we’d bring back a jeepful of stuff, jack and marco were packing the u-haul truck gordon had rented.
tuesday evening was bear’s night out with the sacramento valley bears, this month held at hamburger mary’s. we all decided to go, and jack introduced me to a new drink – the lattitude adjustment: 1 part captain morgan’s rum, 2 parts coconut rum, pineapple juice and ice. delicious. i had one, and then it was off to dinner; our table’s ready.
we headed home, but since i was the driver this evening, i took us over to the bolt, where we made a splash. my will to live was ebbing, though, so since i had the keys, at around 2230 i announced that i was leaving and if they wanted a way home, they better come with me. when i got back to gordon’s, i thought i was just going to get into my car and leave, but i sat down on the couch and started bawling. after the rock show, tfo, and all the work for lazy bear catering all thrown into a single weekend, and being around jack, i just couldn’t hold back the tears. gordon held me and let me cry myself out, then took me swimming and we talked it all out. he made the office bed up for me and i slept there.
wednesday, i awoke at 0630, drove home, packed my car, and was back at gordon’s to help pack the truck with the frozen stuff. i helped for a half-hour, and then it was of to san francisco, where
dropping henry off at fife’s, i went over to the willow’s, the bed-n-breakfast/campground where i was staying. i got my stuff set up, helped with the outdoor kitchen, and had my first cocktail.
more later.
