i am an orthodox christian, and this week is holy week. while the west has already celebrated easter, the christian east’s is this upcoming sunday. i have been, since the previous saturday, singing at the chanter’s stand at my parish here in san francisco. each of the services, up until last night, have lasted between 90 – 120 minutes, but last night’s great and holy thursday service of the crucifiction gospels lasted two-and-a-half hours. my voice’s endurance has been taken to its limit and beyond, but i feel high and deeply moved by the language of the service. it’s as if i’ve been transported to the gates of heaven itself and been allowed a glimpse inside.

orthodox spirituality is deeply mystical, meditative, and poetic. its music is very slow, has a hypnotic droning quality. the services are an experience of the entire body and its senses. all five physical senses are used in orthodox worship. it is a very holistic practice, a very “east meets west” form of spirituality.

i pray that my voice holds out for these next four services.

I’m going to be in San Francisco from this Friday, April 18th, until Sunday, April 27th. I’m going to be singing the Holy Week services at church. The Bishop offered me the job a while ago, and I’m definately in need, so I’m doing it. I’ll be staying at Upper Gryphon House with dhpbear, bigjohnsf, and his partner, John. So, I’m seven months out of a three-year relationship. I’ve been sowing my wild oats for a while now, but I’d really like to meet someone who might be intersted in friendship, dating, seeing where things go.

I’m 37 years old, 6′5″ tall, and weigh 340 pounds. Now don’t get your panties in a bunch about that. Since January, I’ve lost 45 pounds, and am continuing to shrink. I’m committed to getting back in shape. I go on long walks or bike rides every day. I eat right, and generally take care of myself. I was on a trip to NYC, and you can see that although I’m a big guy, I carry myself pretty well, and like I said, I’m 45 pounds lighter than when this pic was taken.

I’d like to meet someone who is around my age, give or take 5 years or so, who is masculine, not “straight-acting.” If I wanted to act straight, I’d be with a woman. I am a man who loves men. So, the kinds of men I like are masculine, single, emotionally available, honest, and gay. They are not afraid of being out, but they’re not standing on the rooftops shouting out, neither. I tend to like intelligent men, who care about the world around them, and are doing something to make the world a better place. The men I am attracted to like to be in the outdoors, whether that’s puttering around the garden, or hiking through the Sierras, or somewhere in between. Ethnically, I tend to be more attracted to men of European or African descent, but by all means do not let that limit me, or you for that matter.

I’m a reader, musicmaker, listener, peoplewatcher, theatre-goer, voter, camper, lover and so much more. I’m an adventurer, who will sometimes at the spur of the moment hop in the car and just pick a direction. Wanna come?

i’m so through with men! i’m completely furious right now, but let’s see if i can get what happened straight in my head.

i’ve seen this guy a few times. there is a definate spark going on, and it’s not just lust, although there is that, too. he called me last night and asked if he could come over. my cell phone captured the number, and i thought that it was his cell phone number, because it wasn’t the number that i have for his house. he came over and visited for about two hours. i tried to call him this morning to wish him a good morning, and i called this number my phone had captured. well, the man who answers says that he is this guy’s “other half” and please don’t call here anymore. so now i’m wondering: what is the number he gave me for his house?

i will not have this drama in my life, so i’m done with him. i just want to meet a nice guy who’s comfortable with his sexuality, isn’t married or partnered, and who’s emotionally available. is that so much to ask? maybe it is, and i need to start finding another woman.

so, i selected a new roommate from among the 12 or so people who called and/or showed up to look at the room. his name is david bott, and he’s a nice guy. i think that he’s going to be a good roommate.

so, last thursday i got my diploma for completing massage school! hooray! yipee! huzzah!
