massage class, continued

by Paul Brown on 12 February 2003

Tonight, we worked on legs. I really wrung my practice partner out. I worked her legs, then her glutes, then did a number on her back. I thought she was going to have a orgasm.

The legs:

  • Effleurage up entire leg. Repeat at least three times.
  • Thumb pressure up Achilles’ tendon, between bellies of gastrocnemius, then medially to laterally apply pressure at top of gastocs.
  • Apply soft pressure to popliteus.
  • Lift leg, and work fingers between toes, then gently rotate ankle. If toes are too tight, the grab toes, palm of hand to sole of foot.
  • Circle around ankle.
  • Cuff from ankle to knee.
  • Rotate leg.
  • While holding foot, apply knuckles to hamstring group.
  • Rake inner thigh.
  • Wring calf and thigh.
  • Cross-arm stretch entire leg.

Tonight, for the first time, I felt my massage was more like a dance. My body mechanics were right, my rhythm was very nice, and my transitions were good. I felt like a person watching me would have thought it was a well-performed and choreographed dance. I have no aches or pains from the work tonight, just a good sense of accomplishment.
